Sydney : Night Life
Sydney is known for its nightlife scene. Although there are already innumerable cafes, bars and clubs, businesses are still booming. Especially in the last few years, the gay and lesbian club circuit has taken over an increasing segment of the clubbing scene, which resulted in some of the best-known (non-exclusive) clubs. It might be an idea to check the local newspaper in order to find out what's going on during your stay in Sydney. Some bars feature live music or stand-up comedians. Otherwise, there is always a play, opera or a film to be seen If you're looking to party around Darling Harbour, there's a new bar called Watershed in the Harbourside centre. It seems to generate a really good atmosphere, with good live entertainment and great views of the city skyline on every level. The Watershed is open from 11am till late weeknights and until 3am on weekends.
Those looking for the colorful side of Sydney's nightlife travel to King's Cross.
It's a little bit of London in your life, a little bit of Amsterdam on the side; in short, the quirky part of Sydney. It has tacky pubs, wacky clubs, strip joints, tattoo parlors, adult book stores and a perfectly legal red light district, all under bright neon lights which burn bright well into daylight. Not surprisingly, it's the most popular place for "Buck's Nights," Aussie-speak for male bachelor parties.
The Performing Arts
If you have an opportunity to see a performance in the Sydney Opera House, jump at it.
Theatre
Sydney's blessed with plenty of theaters, many more than I have space for here -- check the Sydney Morning Herald, especially the Friday edition, for information on what's currently in production.
The Bar Scene
Most of Australia's drinking holes are known as "hotels," after the tradition of providing room and board alongside a good drink in the old days. Occasionally you might hear them referred to as pubs.
